# What is a credit in a contact tool?

A credit is the unit many contact tools charge in, and its value differs between tools because each one decides what a credit buys.

By Invenitor team. Updated 2026-11-01.

## Why is comparing credits hard?

One tool charges 1 credit for an email and 5 for a phone. Another charges one action plus data credits. To compare, work out the cost of the thing you actually want, such as 100 phones. The [cost comparison tool](https://invenitor.com/tools/contact-tool-cost-comparison) does this for you.

## What should you check?

Check the price per credit, what one result costs, whether empty results cost anything, and when credits expire. Invenitor credits last 30 days.
