# What is email verification?

Email verification is using a tool to test whether an address can receive mail, without sending a real message to it.

By Invenitor team. Updated 2026-11-01.

## What can it tell you?

It can flag addresses likely to bounce. It cannot prove that the right person reads that mailbox, and some company mail systems accept everything, which leaves the result unclear. See [catch-all address](https://invenitor.com/glossary/catch-all-address).

## Does Invenitor do this?

No. Invenitor does not guess addresses and does not run mailbox checks. If you need a check before a send, use a separate checking tool. Hunter's Email Verifier is one, at 0.5 credit per address ([Hunter pricing](https://hunter.io/pricing)).
