# What is a people search API?

A people search API lets your code find people from a description or filters and get the results back as structured data.

By Invenitor team. Updated 2026-11-01.

## What should you compare?

Compare the query format, what one call returns, and how billing works. Some APIs take SQL or filters and charge per record. People Data Labs, for example, says "We charge per record retrieved" ([PDL reference](https://docs.peopledatalabs.com/docs/reference-person-search-api)).

## How does Invenitor's differ?

It takes a plain-words query and charges a flat 20 credits (₹40) a search. Contacts are separate and charged only when found. See the [developer guide](https://invenitor.com/guides/people-search-api-for-developers).
