What is waterfall enrichment?
Waterfall enrichment means asking several data providers in order, one after another, until one of them returns the email or phone you asked for.

Why do people use a waterfall?
No single provider has everyone. Trying a second and a third provider fills some of the gaps left by the first. It also makes costs and results harder to predict, because each step can behave differently.
What should you watch for?
Check what you pay when a step finds nothing. Apollo's API pricing page says "some vendors consume credits per lookup even when no data is found" (Apollo API pricing). Clay's pricing page, by contrast, says an enrichment with no result is not charged (Clay pricing).
Do you need to build one?
Only if you need custom logic across many providers. If you just want a contact, use a tool that charges only when it returns one, and leave the order of steps to it.
