What is data decay in contact lists?
Data decay is the way a contact list goes out of date over time as people change roles, change companies and close old mailboxes.

How can you tell a list has decayed?
Bounces rise, and replies start saying "I left that company". You will often see this first in lists bought or exported long ago.
What should you do with an old list?
Do not send to all of it. Send to a small part first and look at the result. Then refresh the people who still matter, one at a time, and retire the rest.
